Season five of For All Mankind promises to be a crucial chapter: more ambitious, more political and ready to bring Mars to the brink of revolution.

The official trailer for the fifth season of For All Mankind raises the narrative tension, revealing an alternate future in which political conflict between Earth and Mars has become inevitable.

Set in the 2010s of this alternate-history timeline, the new season introduces a drastic change of course: President Bragg announces his intention to bring Mars back under Earth’s control, reaffirming Earth’s political and economic primacy.

But the Martian colony, built through sacrifice and a pioneering spirit, is unwilling to give up its autonomy. In an escalation that moves beyond diplomacy, Mars becomes the symbol of a revolution for independence about to erupt.

Happy Valley at the centre of the new season of For All Mankind

Season five picks up several years after the celebrated Goldilocks asteroid heist, the event that redefined the balance of power in the solar system. Happy Valley, once a simple scientific outpost, is now a thriving colony with thousands of residents, advanced infrastructure and a central role in future deep-space missions.

But this growth brings new tensions: Earth’s nations demand law, order and control over resources on the Red Planet, while the Martian settlers assert their right to govern themselves.

The trailer shows how this political conflict quickly becomes a social and ideological confrontation, with Mars increasingly distant from its “motherland.” The series thus continues to explore contemporary themes such as colonialism, power, independence and identity, using science fiction as a lens through which to read the present.

Cast, new characters and the Apple TV release date

Beyond the plot, the fifth season also places a strong emphasis on its characters. Iconic faces such as Joel Kinnaman, of RoboCop, Altered Carbon, House of Cards and The Silent Hour, return alongside newcomers set to change the narrative balance.

Among them is Sean Kaufman as Alex Poletov Baldwin, Ed’s grandson, a young man raised on Mars and a symbol of a new generation that no longer identifies with Earth.

The cast is further expanded by Mireille Enos, Costa Ronin, Ruby Cruz and Ines Asserson, who play key figures among peacekeepers, military personnel and politicians, broadening the conflict across several levels. Created by Ronald D. Moore with Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, the series returns to Apple TV from 27 March 2026, with a new episode every Friday.
