Cinema celebrates the best at the Oscars, but someone still has to deal with the worst. That is where the Razzie Awards come in: the ceremony that reminds Hollywood every year, with a loud raspberry, that rewarding the most talented does not prevent commercial disasters.
At the 46th Golden Raspberry Awards, the biggest failure was the science-fiction remake War of the Worlds, starring Ice Cube, which swept the negative prizes: Worst Picture, Worst Actor for Ice Cube, Worst Director for Rich Lee, Worst Screenplay for Kenny Golde and Marc Hyman, and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel.
The award for Worst Actor therefore went to Ice Cube, the star of the remake released on Prime Video.
To achieve this prestigious result, he had to overcome some formidable competition:
Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye — Hurry Up Tomorrow
Dave Bautista — In the Lost Lands
Scott Eastwood — Alarum
Jared Leto — Tron: Ares
According to many reviews, one of the film’s main problems is its “screenlife movie” structure. In other words, the story is told almost entirely through computer screens, video calls and webcams. An interesting idea on paper, but in practice the result felt more like watching someone argue on Zoom for two hours.
But War of the Worlds was not the evening’s only target.
Among the other negative awards:
Rebel Wilson won Worst Actress for the action comedy Bride Hard.
Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White attracted considerable attention for its seven CGI dwarfs.
And this is where the Razzie voters really enjoyed themselves: the digital characters received awards for:
Worst Supporting Actor
Worst Screen Couple
Yes, technically they gave awards to 3D models, anticipating Matthew McConaughey’s prediction that the Oscars may soon feature categories such as “Best AI Film” and “Best AI Actor”.
Other films with several nominations included The Electric State, Hurry Up Tomorrow and Star Trek: Section 31, proving that even highly anticipated productions can turn into enormous disappointments.
Not everything at the Razzies is pure cinematic sadism.
Every year, the ceremony also presents the Redeemer Award, which recognises artists who manage to recover after becoming Razzie targets in the past.
In 2026, the award went to Kate Hudson for her performance in Song Sung Blue, a role that even earned her an Oscar nomination.
It was a satisfying comeback, considering that Hudson had previously received Razzie nominations for:
My Best Friend’s Girl (2008)
Mother’s Day (2016)
Music (2021)
The lesson is simple: even in Hollywood, you can go from being a cinematic meme to delivering an Oscar-nominated performance.
It does not happen often, but it happens.
And perhaps that is precisely why the Razzie Awards continue to exist: to remind everyone that cinema is not only art…
Sometimes it is also a failed experiment with a $200 million budget.
